Martin Scorsese

Martin Marcantonio Luciano Scorsese, mostly known as Marty, was born on November 17, 1942, in Queens, New York. The American filmmaker is known for his hard-hearted and brutal depictions of American culture. 

Raised by Catherine and Charles Scorsese in Little Italy, Martin Scorsese was highly influenced by the neighborhood he grew up in. He received his BS degree in film communications in 1964, and continued to earn a Master’s degree from NYU in 1966.

Scorsese began his directing career in the ‘70s and earned critical acclaim for Mean Streets, which brought him together with Robert De Niro. The pair went on to do 9 films together like Taxi Driver, New York, New York, and Raging Bull.

His other frequent collaborator is the praised actor Leonardo DiCaprio. The two worked together on multi-award winning films like Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, and Shutter Island.

Martin Scorsese is one of the most brilliant and reputable filmmakers of this generation and generations to come. His legacy will surpass the times and his movies will be taught in film schools.
