Prince Harry was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, to Prince Charles and Princess Diana. As a member of the royal family, Prince Harry has been the subject of media interest since his first day of school in September 1987 at Jane Mynors’ nursery school in London. He lived in Kensington Palace with his family and spent his weekends with them at Highgrove House, a family home in Gloucestershire. His parents split in 1996, and his mother tragically died in a car accident in Paris the following year on August 31. After experiencing such a profound loss, Prince Harry returned to Ludgrove to finish his education.

On May 8, 2005, he enrolled at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to begin officer training, and on April 13, 2006, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Blues and Royals. The announcement in 2006 that Prince Harry might be deployed to Iraq in 2007 sparked controversy. In 2007 — 2008, he worked as a forward air controller in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province undercover for 77 days. During this tour of service, Prince Harry became the first member of the British Royal family to be deployed in a conflict zone. On April 13, 2008, he was promoted to Lieutenant. In May 2008, he was awarded the Operational Duty Medal for Afghanistan for his military service in Afghanistan, which included patrolling in dangerous areas and assisting the Gurkha Brigade in driving Taliban insurgents back.

Prince Harry decided to pursue a career as an Apache helicopter pilot. He began training at the Defence Helicopter Flying School at RAF Shawbury after fulfilling the requisite standards, and on April 14, 2011, he received his Apache Flying Badge. On April 16 of that year, he was appointed Captain. On July 8, 2013, the Ministry of Defence stated that Prince Harry had completed his training as an Apache aircraft commander. On June 4, 2015, he was appointed Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO), and on June 19, 2015, he retired from the Armed Forces.

Many organizations and charities, including the HALO Trust, Well Child, Walking With The Wounded, and the London Marathon Charitable Trust, have retained his patronage. He and Prince William formed The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry in September 2009 to further their charitable endeavors.
